Updated March 13, 2023: Recruiting all the companions in a Pathfinder game is very important - you never know what skillsets you'll need to tackle trouble down the road! We've taken another look at this guide to make sure all the information is up-to-date and readable.
Regular Companions
There are 11 companions to recruit in Pathfinder: Kingmaker, and two extra if you have The Wildcards DLC installed.
For the first few companions, they can either join up with you right after the Prologue or a little later on. Whether this happens depends on the choices you make during the prologue when speaking to Jamandi Aldori.
Companion | How To Recruit | |
---|---|---|
Linzi | Chaotic Good Halfling Bard | She will join you automatically after the prologue if you chose mostly Good dialogue options when speaking to Jamandi Aldori. If she does not join up then you will get the chance to recruit her either during Act One at the Ancient Tomb if you head straight there or the Old Sycamore if not. |
Amiri | Chaotic Neutral Human Barbarian | She values your character's strength and will always be recruited automatically at the end of the prologue regardless of your choices. |
Valerie | Lawful Neutral Human Fighter | She, like Linzi, will join up with you at the end of the prologue if you make Lawful choices. If not, she can be recruited at the Ancient Tomb or later at the Old Sycamore in Act One. |
Harrim | Chaotic Neutral Dwarf Cleric | He is another one of the prologue companions and will join permanently if you choose Chaotic choices. If you miss him here, you can get him at the Ancient Tomb or the Old Sycamore later on in Act One. |
Jaethal | Neutral Evil Undead Elf Inquisitor | If you make Evil dialogue choices during the prologue she will join you permanently right as Act One starts; otherwise, she can be picked up at the Ancient Tomb or at the Old Sycamore later. |
Tristian | Neutral Good Human Cleric | He can be recruited in Act One by heading to the Temple of the Elk and clearing it of dangers and then talking to him. This must be done in Act One before pursuing Tartuccio. If you pursue Tartuccio first, Tristian will instead join at the start of Act Two. |
Regongar | Chaotic Evil Half-Orc Magus | In order to recruit Regongar, you will need to head to the Technic League Encampment during Act One. You will have to defeat all of the enemies there and then free him and Octavia. They can join you then. |
Octavia | Chaotic Good Half-Elf Wizard/Rogue | Just like Regongar, recruiting Octavia involves freeing her from slavery at the Technic League Encampment in Act One. This involves a fight against the slavers. |
Jubilost | Chaotic Neutral Halfling Alchemist | Jubilost is a published author who can end up joining your party during Act Two. When you are doing the Troll Trouble quest, head to the Ford Across Skunk River to encounter Jubilost and his wagon. Save him and you will get the chance to recruit him. |
Ekundayo | Lawful Good Human Ranger | To recruit him and his wolf companion, head to the Ruined Watchtower in Act Two. Help him deal with some trolls and he'll offer to join you. |
Nok-Nok | Chaotic Evil Goblin Rogue | You can recruit him during the Mother of Monsters quest of Act Two at the Goblin Village. |
Kanerah and Kalikke | Lawful Evil and Chaotic Good Tiefling Kineticists | These twins are both Kineticists who inhabit the same body and are able to swap at will once you complete the first quest associated with them. To recruit them, you must head to "Kaessi's" house in your barony and then complete her quest, which will have you exploring the Sorrowflow with her. |
You must have The Wildcards DLC installed to recruit Kanerah and Kalikke.
Recruiting Mercenaries
Anoriel Eight-Eyes at Oleg's Trading Post in Pathfinder Kingmaker
It is possible to hire Mercenaries in Kingmaker too. These are characters built exactly how you'd like them, with your own selection of names, portraits, and classes. They will have fewer points with which to buy stats upon character creation, but their versatility and build flexibility is their greatest strength.
They will not, however, have any personality beyond their voiced lines, nor do they get dialogue or quests.
To recruit Mercenaries, you must pay Anoriel Eight-Eyes some money that scales with the Mercenary's level and then build them there and then. Anoriel Eight-Eyes can be found at Oleg's Trading Post during Act One and then at the Capital Tavern from Act Two onwards.
To calculate how much gold you must spend to hire a Mercenary, first multiply their level by itself, and then multiply that number by 500. For example, a level one Mercenary costs 500gp to hire, but a level three Mercenary costs 4,500gp.
